Richard Keaveney was elected president of the board in June 2016. He and his spouse, James, live in Chestertown MD and are the happy parents of two feline rescues from HSKC, Max and Rex.
Richard is a sales agent for Cross Street Realtors and the chairman/owner of a small chain of day spas in PA, NJ and DE. In addition to his board service with HSKC, he is on the board of Main Street Chestertown and serves as the chair of the Economic Vitality committee. Up until the fall of 2016, James and Richard were co-owners of Poor Richards, a fun gift shop in downtown Chestertown.
In Philadelphia, Richard was active on three non-profit boards: MANNA, Broad Street Ministry, and Morris Animal Shelter. He also served as the CEO of MANNA for over six years, during which time it expanded its AIDS focused mission to provide nutritionally balanced meals for people with all life- threatening illnesses – 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. A very successful $3.5M capital campaign resulted in a renovated headquarters and fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks.
Incredibly impressed with the shelters’ leadership and staff, Richard is committed to thoughtfully and strategically planning for the future of the Humane Society of Kent County.
