When Ralphie showed up at ACSKC with a collar and harness, we were certain he had simply wandered from his owners and would be reunited by the end of the work day.

Eight days later, Ralphie’s stray hold was up and no one had called to claim him. By then, the staff had gotten to know this one-year-old Labrador-Pit Bull mix. Ralphie is playful and goofy, with a love for fetch and chasing after yellow tennis balls. We’d love to see him burning off all that lab energy in a fenced-in yard. While he doesn’t seem to know his own size, Ralphie doesn’t jump and is very gentle with little ones. He would do wonderfully in a home with dog-savvy kids!

We’ve been working to improve Ralphie’s leash skills, and he’s getting better every day! The fact that he’s food-motivated and isn’t picky about treats makes the training easy. Once, after a long hike with our animal control officer (during which he was absolutely perfect on the leash and a complete gentleman with her kids), Ralphie got to enjoy an ice cream cone! Oh, and did we mention that he already knows his basic commands, like sit and lay down? He’s also housetrained!

Start your next adventure with Ralphie by heading over to kenthumane.org to submit an application. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County is open by appointment only. Once your application is approved, we will set up an appointment with you!
