Jay joined us in late summer 2018 after he and his husband, Mark, returned to Chestertown full time following two years in New York. They originally moved to Chestertown from Charlottesville, Virginia in 2014 and share their home with their two rescued Labrador retrievers, Stella and Louie.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, Jay oversees key components of marketing, promotional, and fundraising communications for the Shelter as well as grant research and writing. A lifelong animal lover, he brings degrees in economics and public administration and a 20-year career in government and nonprofit management to the organization. Jay currently serves on the board of directors for Sumner Hall and previously served on the board of directors for United Way of Kent County and the advisory board of Main Street Historic Chestertown. In Virginia, he volunteered with Southeastern Virginia Golden Retriever Rescue as a home evaluator, transporter, and foster parent and served as a volunteer for the Richmond SPCA.
Jay is thrilled to be able to combine his professional background and passion for animals to help the Shelter staff and Board of Directors continue their amazing work for the community and realize the next phase of the organization’s development and growth.
