Important Facts You Should Know About
Your Dog And The Law In Kent County
- All dogs and cats four months or older must be
vaccinated against rabies and all dogs must have a Kent
County dog license. Licenses can be purchased
from the Humane Society, local veterinarians and the
county courthouse.
- Dogs must be on leash or under owner control when away
from owner's property
- Dangerous dogs must be confined by the owner within a
building or secure enclosure and must be securely muzzled
whenever off the owner's property.
- Owners must provide his/her animals with proper
food, drink, air, space, light, shelter, protection from
the weather, and veterinary care.
- Dogs in heat/season must be confined securely so
they cannot be bred accidentally.
- Owners must remove any dog waste deposited by their dogs
to prevent a health hazard or public nuisance.
- NO DOG may be a nuisance to other people
due to:
- Excessive barking
- Damaging personal property
- Bothering passersby
- Chasing or attacking other animals
- Chasing cars
- Running loose
- Creating unsanitary conditions
- No person or organization may operate a commercial kennel
within Kent County without a valid kennel operator's
permit.
