Kathryn Bursick, Financial Assistant
Why and how did you become involved with HSKC?
With years of experience in nonprofit management and a love of animals, I jumped at the chance to join the team here! I’ve always been impressed by the services that HSKC provide to our community, and got the chance to experience the need for high-quality animal welfare assistance first-hand when I discovered a stray kitten in the middle of the road last year. I signed on as her foster via the HSKC, and the rest is history. (That little kitten is all grown up now and – thanks to the HSKC – has a loving forever home!)
Do you have any pets?
3 cats, all rescues in one form or another. Bella is small and black, Rigel is orange and tail-less, and Langston is gigantic and very very cuddly. It’s a bit like living with a herd of baby elephants.
What’s your favorite thing about HSKC?
Georgia the office cat! No office is complete without a cat to “help” you do your work. She’s very good at filing things vertically onto the floor and using the computer mouse – I’d even started training her on QuickBooks.
Alas, Georgia has since moved over to the Shelter with Director of Operations Sandy Appel, so I’m guessing that we’ll need to start interviewing for replacement office cats. Not that you could ever *really* be replaced, Georgia….
Oh, and the camaraderie, can-do attitude, and support of the human Staff is pretty great, too! It’s wonderful to know that you’re helping to make a difference day-by-day in the lives of both animals and people.
What do you do when you’re not at the shelter?
Video games, books, music, movies, embroidery, enjoying the great outdoors, and – of course – petting the 3 cats.
