Did You Know?

Pets Need Blood Too!

Did you know that dogs, cats, and other pets receive blood transfusions for illness and injury? The EASTERN VETERINARY BLOOD BANK has been providing canine blood products to veterinary clinics since 1993. All of our donors are volunteers who live with their families and come in once every 2 months to give blood. Donors receive numerous health benefits, including free blood should it ever be needed.

If you have a healthy dog between the ages of 9 months and 7 years that weighs over 35 pounds, please consider becoming part of this life saving service.

We have donor locations in Annapolis, Bel Air, Columbia, Timonium, Towson, and Northern Virginia,

For more information please call: 410-224-BANK or visit our website at: www.evbb.com

Dog Bite Prevention Tips
  • Spay or neuter your dog. Dogs who have been spayed or neutered are happier, healthier, and three times less likely to bite.

  • Train and socialize your dog so that he is comfortable being around people, including friends, neighbors, and children. and real-life situations.

  • Be sure your dog is safely restrained or confined in another room when a letter carrier or other service person comes to your home.

  • Never approach a dog you don't know or a dog who is alone without his owner, especially one confined behind a fence, within a car, or on a chain.

  • When approached by a dog, don't run or scream. Instead stand still with your hands at your sides and do not make direct eye contact with or speak to the dog. Teach children to "Be a tree", and have them practice doing so with a stuffed toy dog. If knocked to the ground, curl into a ball with your hands over your ears. Teach children to "Lie like a log" until the dog goes away.
